Hi, I'm Kat!

I'm Kat Owens, a Functional Nutritional Therapy

Practitioner, Certified Personal Trainer and

most importantly of all, a follower of Christ.

With diet, I have been able to fix sugar and skin issues

and an autoimmune condition. Food has also helped me

to have an easy, enjoyable pregnancy without excess

weight gain and a healthy, happy baby, now toddler.

My interest in nutrition began in high school when I started

trying to eat healthy so help my cross country and track

performance. I decided not to drink soda anymore, and then later,

not to eat any types of refined sugar. I was so diligent about reading all

ingredient labels and refusing even foods like even spaghetti sauce because of the sugar in it, but I know now that there is a lot more to nutrition and healthy eating that just avoiding sugar!

When I started college at the Air Force Academy I began a paleo diet with no grains and little sugar- or as best as I could at a military, college dining facility. This helped with some allergies and improved my skin issues a little.

After graduating I started experiencing some digestive issues and fatigue, dizziness, and other symptoms that I know now are closely tied to blood sugar regulation. This is when I stepped up my nutrition research. Diving into diets, supplements, protocols, books, blogs, articles, and conferences became my favorite hobby and I’ve been continually learning and experimenting ever since.

I was able to quickly resolve the new symptoms and in 2019 I completed a long-term goal of mine to become certified as a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner through the Nutritional Therapy Association. This nine-month program gave me a foundation for the information I’d been studying for years.

My first creative endeavor with nutrition was a small blog where I wrote about Biblical-based nutrition. I loved exploring these topics, but after I received my FNTP certification I started focusing on individual coaching and small group classes teaching real food, low-carb for long-term metabolic health (mostly weight loss and weight management but much more). I continue to offer this as an online e-course.

Over the years I've developed an appreciation for bio-individuality, meaning different nutritional approaches for different people (such as low-carb for metabolic issues or certain elimination diets for digestive problems); the vital role of true healthy fats; and ancestral eating principles such as those taught by the Weston A. Price foundation. Using these principles for myself and my family has allowed me to resolve all of my health complaints and re-discover deep enjoyment and appreciation of food, cooking, and dominion of God's Creation.

As well as a FNTP, I am married to my husband, Gage, who is an Air Force KC-46 pilot. We met on the Air Force Academy cross country team as college freshman and re-connected on Facebook almost ten years later! After six years of active duty in the Air Force I continue to serve a few days years in the Air Force reserve, but most importantly I have the great blessing of being able to stay home with our first baby.
